Representation of ethnicity in Hotel Babylon

In British media, It is a common stereotype of immigrants to be portrayed as a nuisance, and being disposable to more powerful people. towards the end of the extract a clip is shown of two of the immigrants praying. This challenges the stereotype of them being disposable, as the loss of a single member of the workforce is greatly grieved. This gives a much more positive view of the immigrants than the usual, as it is not only the less powerful that grieve for him.
In the scene where the group of immigrant workers are packed into a small room and fill the space on-screen, it makes them seem much less individuals and rather a group, which shows their unimportance in society. Having them packed together like this means they have much less individual personalities and are portrayed to be great in number and also somewhat generalised.
Immigrants are generally thought of as having low-paid and unwanted jobs such as cleaning. This stereotype is both supported and challenged in this clip. The section where the female is running through the kitchen ordering and organising the workers shows her as a leader alongside the workers with much lower paid jobs. This supports the stereotype as the majority of the immigrants have jobs such as cooks and cleaners, however it also challenges the stereotype having an asian woman as some sort of leader, ordering and organising the group of individuals.
